Area Description: The village of Kranevo is a splendid holiday village that is situated at one of the most picturesque spots on the Black Sea Coast, between the summer resorts Albena and Golden Sands and only 20 km. away from Bulgarian Sea Side Capital – the town of Varna. The vast beach, clean sea, gently sloping sea bottom and curative mineral water have propelled the swift growth of the village into a competitive tourist destination. The name of the village comes from Kraneia fortress. After the Balkan war and Bucharest treaty in 1913, the village was incorporated into Romanian territory. In 1940 it was reincorporated into Bulgarian territory. Traces of the Roman fortress, which was exploited during the Middle Ages as well, have been found on the southern plateaus above the village. In 1968 mineral water 24°C was found in the site. Kranevska River is flowing close by the village. There is regular bus transport from Balchik, Varna and Dobrich. Kranevo entertainment and sightseeing Despite its relatively small size, Kranevo offers plenty of cozy private hotels (usually family-run ones) and rest homes. This place is suitable for those on a budget, because the prices in Kranevo are far cheaper than those in Albena, besides there is a great capacity of private lodgings for foreigners and Bulgarian tourists. It is known as a resort for small kids, where they go for their vacation - many school camps you can find here. Kranevo fascinates tourists with its whitewashed houses and red-tile roofs. Every house has a flower garden and a vine arbour where beaming hostesses welcome their guests and treat them to some chilled grape brandy. Home - made dishes are usually prepared with vegetables and fruits grown by the landlords. The beach strip has fine sands and gently slopes into the sea. The combination of spring mineral water, fresh air and magnificent beach makes the resort an attractive place for a quiet vacation.The climate is moderate continental with a summer temperature between 24°C-28°C and an average sea temperature of 24.7 °C. The climate is strongly influenced by the sea. The summer season begin in May and ends in October. At disposal of the guests are numerous private rooms, small hotels, cozy cafes, nigth clubs, fast food restaurants, disco clubs and the prices are more than reasonable. Just by the coastline are situated the camps “International” and “Exotic”. North from Kranevo is the valley of Batova river. “Golden sands” is very close to the small village of Kranevo. Golden sands” and Albena are very close to the small village of Kranevo. Only 2 km away from the village is located the Albena resort, so tourists can take a pleasant walk along the beach to Albena. Relatively close to Kranevo is the famous Aladzha rock monastery. On the opposite direction are located the town of Balchik with its beautiful palace and Botanic Garden. Other places of interest, not far away from Kranevo are : „Kamen briag, Kaliakra cape, Taukliman, and Fossil forest. Between Shabla and Kavarna is situated the Kamen bryag area (Stone shore). Here the plateau of Dobrudza is indented in terraces. In this way were formed many creeks, surrounded by stone blocks and verdure. Exactly on such kind of terrace is situated this land, daclared an archeological reserve, because a Thracian necropolis and prehistoric cave-dwellings have been discovered. Kaliacra cape is the most beautiful and the strangest place in the Bulgarian northern Black Sea. The narrow rocky peninsula is cutting 2 km into the sea as a wedge and this promontory ends with 70 m high vertical rocks. The Taukliman reserve (Bird bay) is situated 15 km east of Kavarna and 60 km of Varna. It is famous for its magnificent small beaches, warm mineral water, and numerous rocky islands.
