There is also another impressive building - the Palace of Culture and Sport, which houses 6 sports halls, a recreation center, a fitness centre, a business- and a shopping centre. In the centre of the city are situated the remains of the largest Roman public building in Bulgaria. It was built in the 2nd century and during the invasion of the Barbarians in the 5th century it was abandoned. Today the Roman Thermae are restored and opened for tourists. Another symbol of the sea capital is the Marine Garden, extending along the Varna seashore. The enchanting park offers quiet paths, large grass-plots and equipped playgrounds. It also houses various museums such as the unique Planetarium, the Aquarium, the Zoo and the Amphitheatre. An attraction of great interest is the only one Dolphinarium on the Balkans, where the amusing show of the intelligent sea artists can be observed. There is another interesting place for lovers of sea animals - the Aquarium, where the great variety of the sea flora and fauna is presented. It provides wide information about the characteristics of the Black Sea and its inhabitants. The city is extremely rich of different museums. The former Girls High School, which used to be the biggest in the Balkans, houses the Archaeological Museum that holds an impressive collection of gold jewels, ancient toreutic works, icons and church plates. The National Revival Museum presents the national struggle for independance and the epic battles during the Russian-Turkish War. The Ethnographic Museum has exhibits showing traditional means of livelihood and costumes with varying demographic features.The Naval Museum presents the history of the Bulgarian National Marine. The Museum of the History of Medicine is the only one of its kind in the Balkans and possesses a rich paleoanthropologic collection.The Varna Museum of Hystory and Art shows one of the most impressive exponents - the unique Varna Golden Treasure, which is the oldest processed gold in the world, found so far. In addition to the numerous entertainments available in the sea capital, tourists would be delighted to discover the romantic charm of the Varna surroundings. South of Varna, on the riverside of Kamchia is situated the famous natural reserve "Longoza", in which plenty of rare species from the flora and fauna are presented. The eco-system comprises about 200 species of plants, 25 - of fish and 14 - of amfibians and birds, many of which are included in the National Red Book for protected species. North of the city lies the natural park "Golden Sands" which not only houses a lot of rare plant and animal species but also offers 5 tourist routes, passing by old trees, nice fountains and picturesque landscapes. The most attractive historic object there is the Aladzha Monastery, which comprises several thombs, chapels and cells, cut in the rocks.
